Department of International Economic Relations at Svishtov Academy of Economics celebrates a quarter century
The Department of International Economic Relations at the Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics celebrated a quarter century with a ceremonial meeting and an international scientific conference. Among the guests of the celebrations were the Rector and Vice-rectors of the Svishtov Academy, Prof. D.Sc. Illya Khadzhynov - Deputy Rector of the Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, deans and heads of departments from the Academy of Economics, representatives of related departments from Bulgarian and foreign universities.
In an address to the public, the Head of the Jubilee Department, Assoc. Prof. Galina Zaharieva, recalled that the Department of International Economic Relations was founded on January 20, 1993, by Prof. D.Sc. Atanas Damyanov - its long-time head, Prof. Snezhana Naydenova, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Spiridonov, Assoc. Prof. Ivanka Tsoneva, Assoc. Prof. Nikola Konov. "These are the people to whom we are today expressing our sincere gratitude for the foundations and contribution to today's image of the department and specialty. To date, the faculty consists of 5 habilitated lecturers - one Professor D.Sc. and four Associated Professors, five Head Assistants Ph.D. and one Assistant Ph.D. The Department teaches students in Bachelor's degree in International Economic Relations, Master's degree in 5 Master's programs and doctoral students in the Ph.D. program "World Economy and International Economic Relations". Assoc. Prof. Zaharieva also underlined the energetic work by the Alumni Club IntEcoR - Svishtov, the traditional student scientific conference of the Department, the numerous projects and publications, the development of the department, accompanied by different achievements.
"The Department of International Economic Relations is one of the young departments of the Academy of Economics, but for the past 25 years it has achieved a great deal - the department's staff is young, highly motivated and trained in serious traditions. From this department there are people who are famous for the development of science and training at the Academy of Economics, but now there are quite serious, ambitious and proven scientists", said the Rector Assoc. Prof. Ivan Marchevski. According to him, the department is unique with its students, who after graduation become one of the most successful alumni of the Svishtov Academy. The Rector expressed his gratitude to the Head of Department on behalf of the whole academic community and handed over to Assoc. Prof. Zaharieva the Honorary Sign of the Academy of Economics. During the ceremonial session, the jubilee department received numerous formal greetings, presents and addresses from the guests of the celebration.
The International Conference marking the 25th Anniversary of the Department was entitled "Integration Processes in the Global Economy". The work of the two-day scientific forum began with three plenary reports. Prof. D.Sc. Tanya Gorcheva from the host department presented a report entitled "Projections of European Trade Practices for Stimulating Bulgarian Exports". In the second plenary report Professor Khadzhynov spoke of Ukraine's international trade in modern conditions, and the third report was about the attitudes towards labor migration presented by Assoc. Prof. Georgi Marinov from the University of Economics - Varna. The participants in the forum worked in three thematic sections, moderators of which were lecturers from the host department. The international conference involved 86 scientists from 15 universities from Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Italy and the Czech Republic. More than 70 reports are accepted and will be published in a proceedings of the same name.
The conference is part of the activities under Project 4-2018 "Integration Processes in the Global Economy" at the Institute for Scientific Research managed by Assoc. Prof. Zdravko Lyubenov Ph.D.
